John Lee Kennedy held Armistice Day with great and solemn reverence each year at it rolled around. Occasionally, it there were just a few present, he would recount its meaning to them. He told of being in the trenches during World War I, and how they had already received their orders to "go over the top" the next day to fight in a battle that they understood the causalities would be extremely high and most of them realized they would not see the next evening come. He told of the tremendous relief and gratitude he felt when they learned of the signing of the Armistice ending World War I. How fitting that he quietly passed away on the 61st anniversary of that fateful evening November 10, 1918. A true hero and much better father than he ever received recognition for. A man who spoke softly of harsh truths and never condemned anyone for the decisions they had made even when he knew they were wrong. A great man of honor who was known by most of his grandchildren and other relatives simply as "Pa John". You are missed and highly respected by the few that actually cared to understand your plight in life.
