Harriet became the 2nd wife of Frank Stanley 7 years after he married her older sister Sarah. Sarah could not have children and Frank wanted so much to have a posterity. This was around the time that polygamy was on the "outs". This must have been very hard on Harriet. She lived in Bountiful with her children while Frank and Sarah lived in Salt Lake. Some of the family stories are while Harriet was pregnant she would have to hide in the bulrushes when notified the sheriff was coming. This was in North Salt Lake, almost opposite the old Becks Hot Springs. It would have meant jail for Frank because the law was fighting polygamy. At another time it became necessary for Harriet to crawl under the porch, sliding inch by inch among spiders and cobwebs and staying very still until she knew the sheriff was gone. At this time Harriet was very large with child. Another time when all men with more than one wife were told "pick one" and not associate with the other, Harriet being very pregnant took one of her daughters and a midwife and was sent out west of Bountiful towards the lake and stayed in a tiny cabin until the birth of the baby. This meant leaving her other children with her sister Sarah and again hiding out. Harriet was known for being "sickly" and suffered a stroke before the birth of her last daughter. She lived for several more years and suffered another stroke which took her life at the age of 39.

Harriet was the mother of 7 children; 4 lived to maturity. It is not known where 2 of her baby son's are buried. Frank Stanley in a military pension form listed "James Stanley born 10 May 1891" as one of his children. There is no record of his burial. Another infant son is recorded as being born and die in 1898. Harriet's daughter Hazel recalls "Allie (Hazel's older sister) remembers the one born in 1891 (James) as being in the clothes closet after it was dressed for burial and she though it a big doll and was holding it when Aunt (Sarah) found her there in the closet. The baby who died after I (Hazel) was born was buried on the farm in Lehi. I used to keep the grave clean of weeds and put wild flowers on it." What farm Hazel is referring to us unknown. The Stanley family did live in Lehi for a bit as well as Isaac Hardman Jr., older brother to Harriet. Both Isaac Hardman and Frank Stanley is listed as living at the same address in Lehi in 1904.
