Research notes of Vicky Nye Dennis. Sarah is my 3rd great-grandmother. I was surprised that the inscription on her headstone gives me peace. It reads: Rest mother, rest in quiet sleep. While friends in sorrow o'er thee weep.

Sarah Dawson wed 1st a widower by the name of William Andrew Zumwalt in 1855 in Hickory County, Missouri. They were married shortly after the death of his 1st wife, for he had several very young children to care for. Sarah herself soon became widowed after marriage.

Sarah Dawson-Zumwalt married a 2nd time in 1858 in Polk County Missouri to Joseph J. Hogg the widower of Rebecca Bridges. Joseph was several years her senior. This also was a brief marriage and Sarah found herself once again widowed. Joseph and Sarah had two children within their marriage. A son Lewis Wisdom Hogg and a daughter Josephine Ann "Josie" Hogg. As mentioned Her 2nd husband Joseph Hogg was widowed and he had children within his 1st marriage. After Joseph's death, Sarah raised them as her own.
