Cora Belle Curtis Raines was the daughter of Dr. John Lackland and Lucy Cram Curtis of Genesee County, New York. Her siblings were Bellanora (died young), Franklin H. (died young) and John L., Jr. (died at age 15). Cora's father died in 1880. Three years later her mother married Lyman Curtis (her brother-in-law) and she and Cora moved to Iowa where most of the Curtis family had moved to.
Cora married Robert Bielby Raines on Oct. 16, 1884. They had the following children: Robert, Ruth C., Rose M. and Richard C.
The Raines were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Independence, Iowa. Cora was a member of the DAR.
