He was born June 22, 1922, in Detroit, the son of Albert and Carrie (Scherer) Marts. Growing to manhood in the area, he attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School.
On Feb. 23, 1945, he married Opal G. Foust. Most all of their married life was spent in White City. He had been employed by the Rock Island Railroad from 1946 until 1967 and then in the civil service at Fort Riley until retiring in 1984. She preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 1984. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the White City Christian Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Gladys (Russel) Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; son, Maynard (Debbie) Marts of Dwight; brother, Robert Marts of Wichita; six grandchildren, Jay (Mandy) Anderson, Jamie (Greg) Otterman, Jana (Chris) Lampman, Jared (Lisa) Anderson, Melissa (Eric Renshaw) Marts and Travis Marts; and eight great-grandchildren, William Randall Wayne Renshaw, Jauslynn Bree Otterman, Gage Christopher Otterman, Jalyn Brooke Otterman, Makenna Dawn Anderson, Lyndi Rose Anderson, Ansley Sheffield, and Logan Sheffield.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Marion Marts and two sisters, Catherine Krehbiel and Ruth Perkins.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 2, at the White City Christian Church. Interment followed in the Abilene Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday, March 1, at the White City Christian Church.
