Joseph Lewis Angell, 69, loving and devoted husband and father, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Salem. Joe was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was employed many years at Shepherds Auto Parts in Roanoke where he managed the Machine Shop. A great deal of joy came from music. He was a member of the "Goodtimers", and at his passing, of the "Franklin County Ramblers". The "Ramblers" donate the majority of their time and talents entertaining the residents of area nursing facilities. Joe loved to pick his five-string, and spending time with all of the "Ramblers" He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Roark Angell; mother, Dorothy Fisher Angell; father, James Lewis Angell; sisters, Marie Angell Brown and Gloria Carolyn Angell. Surviving family include his loving and devoted wife, Jean; his children and their spouses, Mark and Jennifer Angell, Deana and Dwayne Brogan; stepdaughter and spouse, Cathy and Buddy Shaw; stepson, David Balzer; his grandchildren, Kelsey Angell, Seth Brogan, Jared Thomas; stepgrandson, David Shaw; Poppy's little girl, Ellen Shaw; brother and spouse, Guy and Tammy Angell; sisters and spouses, Joanne and Frank Kennedy, Connie and Cliff Slone; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, with the Rev. Paul Sink officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation for the love and support that has been shown by everyone during this time. We would like to express special thanks to everyone at the VA Medical Center Palliative Care Unit for their love, support, and acts of kindness shown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Cancer Care, 2013 South Jefferson Street, 2nd Floor Attn.: Greg Cain, Roanoke, VA 24014.
