Wesley Dodson, genealogist-historian for Warren Co. TN alleges William, Sr. was a preacher at Buck Primitive Baptist Church in Warren Co for a time shortly before his death.

His gravestone inscription:"Departed this life on the 3rd day of March AD 1814 in the 65th year of his age. He was a hero of the Revolution and a worthy member of society." However, he died before the pension list from the Revolutionary War was set in 1832, and we do not know where he was living when he enlisted.

NOTE: Legal records show the family name also spelled McKey and McKee.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A John Mackey married 18 Dec. 1746 in Charleston, SC to Elizabeth Hamilton. Could these be William's parents?

The name MACKEY appears in the Irish/ Quaker immigration lists of 1740-50.

The Mackey (stone says McKey) burial farm was known as the "Old Palo McVey farm" in 1964. It is part of the Pleasant Cover Nursery in 2009.

Rev. John Green served as administrator of the William Mackey,Sr. estate. He received control in 1829. Final settlement July 1835 in Session court, Warren Co. TN.
