ALFRED M. BURGESS
Alfred M. Burgess, 57, died at his home on Gore Road Monday afternoon. He was employed at the Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, Mass.
Born in Pownal June 2, 1915, he was the son of Elmer and Eva (Honn) Burgess. He attended schools in Pownal and Bennington. He had resided in Bennington most of his life.
His first wife was the former Bessie Vadakin and they had one daughter, Mrs. Harriette Harrington. He later married the former Pauline Brace, who survives.
Other survivors besides his wife and Mrs. Harrington include two sons, Albert and Wayne, both of Bennington; one daughter Marjorie Burgess, also of Bennington; two stepstons, Harold Bruce, U.S. Marine Corps, and James Kittel of Bennington; seven grandchildren; his father, Elmer E. Burgess of Bennington; three brothers, Ralph Burgess of Shaftsbury, Bernard of California and Elmer Burgess Jr. of Bennington; two sisters, Mrs. Chester (Cherry) Walker of Essex, N.Y., and Mrs. Vernon (Helena) Bolton of Bennington.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 am at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard D. Campbell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Should they desire memorial contributions may be made to Hale Mountain Fish and Game Club through the office of the funeral home.
