At Westmoreland, Tenn., on Saturday morning May 26, 1917 at about 2:30 o'clock we were called to the bedside of one of the dearest of this earth, to us, our dear father, husband and brother, Mr. C.A. Stinson. We all realized that the end was near, but in his quiet and cheerful way he tried to console us with a few precious words and repeated the 8th, 9th and 19th verses of the second chapter of Ephesians. These verses were dear to him. He said that he was ready to go, that he had suffered so many hard trials and suffered so long trying to get well, but all had failed him but his faith in Christ and it had grown brighter each day, and now he was ready to go and be at rest. But he lingered on until in the afternoon about 3:00 o'clock when at last the call came and he closed his eyes in a deep sleep to never awake of speak to us again in this life. All that he dreaded was leaving us, but begged us not to grieve after him. He had been in failing health for 2 years and for the past 13 weeks had been unable to sit up.
He was the eldest son of Rev. and Mrs. J.R. Stinson; was born on March 11, 1857 and married Jennie Hammock on Oct. 18, 1875. To this union were born 9 children, 4 girls and 5 boys; 2 boys and 1 girl died when young.
He professed religion in 1877 at old Chestnut Grove and Sept. 1884 he joined the Baptist Church at Siloam where he lived a consistent member until death.
He died triumphantly in the faith in which he lived at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 15 days. A wife, six children, 14 grandchildren, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. One brother, G.T. Stinson of Cedar Hill, Tex., and one sister, Mrs. R.F. Bentle of Ector, Texas were not present.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 27 at Siloam church by his pastor, Rev. C.B. Massey assisted by undertaker C.C. Alexander. After which we followed him to the family grave yard where they laid him to rest by the side of his father, mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister, and there we left him, under a mass of beautiful flowers that had been so carefully shaped into so many wreaths by his friends and returned to the lonely home with a broken hearted mother.
We appreciate the kindness shown us on this sad day.
His loving daughter,
Mrs. C.W. Simmons
