A retired oilfield worker, Mr. Ballard had been in failing health. He was a Wayne County native.
He was born in Wayne County June 22, 1921, the son of Ernest & Letta Todd Ballard. On May 11, 1946, he was married to Ruth Hood.
Mr. Ballard was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1376, Mt. Vernon, and American Legion Post No. 141, Mt. Vernon.
Survivors are his wife; sons, Joe, Ernie, and Jerry; five grandchildren & three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother and his stepmother.
Services were held at the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery south of Wayne City. Military graveside rites were held also.
