She was born March 6, 1925, in Stokes County to Oscar Lee and Ethel White Spainhour.
Opal was an active member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 36 years of service. She enjoyed spending time working with her flowers.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Melvin Slate "Bud" Lawson; a sister, Hassell S. White; and four brothers, Branson, Delos, Thamer and Troy Spainhour.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Stewart Pilcher, and husband Darrell; a son, Bennie Wayne Lawson, and wife Gneatter, all of King; two grandchildren, Timplar Stewart-Casey and husband Porter of Clayton and Cody Pilcher of King; and two sisters, Medea Cardwell of King and Estelle Pope of Kernersville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Poplar Springs Church of Christ, with Ralph Sproles, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the church.
