The daughter of John Gifford Skelton and Charlotte Randolph Foushee Skelton, married John Langbourne Williams. In two generations they produced 62 offspring and in-laws. Maria's husband, John, was a Richmond banker. Their son, John Skelton Williams, was a U.S. assistant secretary of the treasury and comptroller of the currency. Her grandfather, Peyton Randolph, was acting Governor of Virginia in 1811. Peyton's father was Governor Edmund Randolph. Peyton's grandfather was Colonial Patriot Robert Carter Nicholas.
