A well known and highly respected resident Mr. Schoppe was born in Carlinville and spent his entire life here. After being employed as a clerk in several stores, he went into the grocery business for himself for about 10 years. He succeeded Tom Sweeney at his old location in the southeast part of Carlinville square.
Since the opening of the county Office of Price Administration he had served as a clerk in the office on North Broad street. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of Carlinville and had been secretary for the organization for a number of years. Besides his wife, decedent is survuved by two sons, Loren of St. Paul, PA, and Kermit of Ephrta, PA; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Lancaster of Carlinville and Mrs. J. C. Hicks of Houston, Texas and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Heinz Funeral Home, Rev. Earl Leffelman, pastor of Memorial Christian church officiating. Interment was in Carlinville City Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Fred Wilson, Charles Robertson, C.M. White, Adolph Bloome, Charles Geiser, and John Geist.
