They had eight children: Rebecca Jane Matheney, John Henry Matheney, Clarissa C. Matheney, Mary E. (Ellen?) Matheney, George W. Matheney, Sarah Elizabeth Matheney, Joseph H. Matheney and Samuel Owen Matheney.
Joseph was a sawyer and his family moved from Alleghany County, Virginia, to Bath County, Virginia (near Millboro, Virginia).
Joseph's service in the Confederate States Army is listed as: 1) Patrol Guard, 11th Congressional District, Virginia (Mounted). 2) Earhart's Company, Virginia Local Defense (Blacklick Home Guards). 3) Company A, 6th Virginia Infantry. Joseph died while in service to the Confederate Army.
