Born in Kolenfled, Kingdom of Hanover, Christoph immigrated on the Hudson to New York on May 17, 1850. He moved to the German community in Chicago and became active in the German Evangelical church where he was located by Henry Freise as a husband for his widowed sister, M. Dorothee "Dora" Friese Brand.

They married on 20 April, 1853 in Limestone Twp. and Christoph Kukuck took over the Brand farm with his stepson, Henry Ernst Brand (age 8). When Henry grew able to manage his farm alone, Christoph bought his own land nearby.

He became a beloved father to his step-children and father to 10 more (five of whom survived). He continued a successful farmer and a dedicated member of the German Evangelical church.
