Upon his arrival I Vietnam Lewis was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Lewis died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire when Lima Company was engaged by hostile forces in the Song Ngan Valley, 9 kilometers west northwest of Cam Lo during Operation Hastings.
Tour of duty unknown.
Survived by his wife, Willie M Barnard of East Gadsden, AL and his parents; Sanford G and Leonore B G Barnard and a brother; Kenneth David Barnard all of Route #1, Fyffe, AL.
