OBITUARY: SARAH J. FAIRALL
DECATUR COUNTY JOURNAL
Thursday, April 27, 1899

SARAH J. FAIRALL died, April 7, 1899, aft a short illness. Mrs. Sarah J. Fairall, wife of Clark Fairall. Deceased was overtaken with a slight stroke of paralysis on the morning of April 1st and from that time she gradually lost strength. About 2 o'clock Tuesday evening she was seized with a second stroke from which she never revived until she passed away Friday morning at 5 o'clock.
The subjuect of this sketch was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, January 4, 1824. She was the daughter of Kimball and Mary Hickman, and the eldest of ten children. At the age of seventeen she united with the Christian Church at Elizabethton, Ohio, to which she remained a constant and faithful member. Grandpa and Grandma Fairall were united in marriage, May 1, 1844. To this union was born four children, Thomas, Kimball, William and Mary. Thomas died at Macon, Georgia, in 1866. Kimball Fairall and Mrs. Mary Brazelton live in Decatur County and were present during her illness. The grandchildren, eight in number and two great-grandchildren also reside in this county.
Grandpa and Grandma Fairall were among Iowa's pioneers. In 1853 they settled in Jones County where they resided for three years, since then their home has been on the farm four miles south of Leon. For the past twenty-three years the aged pair had kept house alone, hale and happy. Those who knew them were their friends.
