Hertha L. "Gram" McCracken, 104, of Amboy, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Amboy Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Hertha was born Nov. 15, 1906, in West Brooklyn, the daughter of Frank and Vernena Yocum. She married Byron McCracken in November 1929, in Franklin Grove. He preceded her in death.
Hertha enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, and raising African violets. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her daughter, Mildred (Francis) Andrus of Wilber, Neb., two sons, Howard (Carol) McCracken of Florida; one sister, Leda Cage of Paradise, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Russell; one daughter, Mary LeFevre; three brothers, Vernon, Ralph, and Dale; and two sisters, Hilda and Edna.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Franklin Grove United Methodist Church, 223 W. Middle St., with the Rev. Karl Sokol officiating. Burial will be at Franklin Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements were completed by Coulon-Lyons Family Funeral Homes of Ashton and Rochelle.
