Marjorie Vogt Freeland, 95, of Nampa, passed on to her Lord on Feb. 11, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Freeland; her parents, Esta K. Vogt and James Camburn Vogt; and her sister, Grace Sellers.
Surviving are her three children, James S. (Mary) Freeland, Ben F. (Debbie) Freeland, and Nancy G. Whitewater; her brother, James C. Vogt; sister, Helen Meyer; and 37 grand and great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was born on Nov. 22, 1906, in Foxholm, North Dakota, during a horrendous snowstorm in a one room shanty. She began teaching in one-room schools at the age of 17. She was married to George F. Freeland in Idaho Falls on June 6, 1940. Marjorie was a long-time member of the Nazarene Church and an active member of Bethel Church in Nampa.
Marjorie was raised around Chadron, Neb., and met George while teaching in Salmon. After teaching in many western schools, they moved to Nampa in 1966 where she taught at Notus High School until 1972. After retirement from public schools, she taught night school at Boise Business College until she was in her mid 80s. She taught all of her life, to family, friends and children in public schools. She was very independent, traveling with children and grandchildren visiting friends and family.
All her friends are invited to join her family for a memorial service that will be held at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 3001 12th Ave. Road, Nampa, on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m.
