Herald April 21, 1981:

Funeral services for Gladys Marie Banks, 20, of Richmond, are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. B.J. Banks presiding. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Booth.

Banks died Friday in her Richmond home. She was an employee of the Autumn Hills Convalescent Center in Sugar Land.

Survivors include one daughter, Dwan Banks of Richmond; her mother, Dorothy J. Banks of Richmond; four sisters, Helen Ray, Ruby Banks, Erma Banks, and Odetta Banks, all of Richmond; two brothers, Robert Banks and Odell Banks, both of Richmond; and grandparents, Annie and Sam Tyler of Richmond.

Wake services will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday night at the N.W. Evans Mortuary Chapel in Richmond.

This week, Crime Stoppers will pay $1,000.00 for information that could solve the murder of Gladys Marie Banks.

On April 17th, 1981, about 1:50 in the afternoon, the body of Gladys Marie Banks was found in her home at 707 South Sixth Street in Richmond, the apparent victim of strangulation. Gladys worked at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home in Sugar Land, and had worked the 3:00 - 11:00 p.m. shift on Thursday, April 16th. She was not seen alive again.

Investigators found no forced entry into the home and there was no apparent struggle. The fully clothed body was found in the bedroom of the home. An autopsy showed that Gladys had been strangled. Robbery and sexual assault have been ruled out as motivation for the murder. Investigators believe that Gladys probably knew her killer.
