ANNA ARCHER DIED AT OAKDALE THURSDAY
This community was very saddened Thursday afternoon when word was received of the death of Anna Archer, after a long period of illness, at the Oakdale Sanitarium.
Anna Marie Archer was born July 3, 1908, near Elliott, IA, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Archer. Anna took suddenly ill May 20th at the Tom Weidman home and after 2 weeks of continued sickness was moved to Red Oak hospital and later taken to Oakdale, Iowa, where she passed away of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, July 15th, 1926. She received her education in the Griswold and Elliott schools, where she finished her sophomore year in high school this past May.
Two years ago last May, she lost her beloved mother who passed away at Wray, CO. Since that time she has made her home in the Earl Lowman, Ralph Viner, Harry Carson and Tom Weidman homes.
Anna was a girl loved for her retiring unselfish and winning disposition. One who was ever mindful of those who cared for her. She took an active part in the social and church life of the young people of the community being a member of the Methodist Church.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her step-father, Mr. Clayton Green of Griswold, IA, her grandmother, Mrs. Job Wilson of Winterset, IA, one sister Martha Green of Elliott and four brothers, Ray, Morris, Fay and Jack Green of Council Bluffs, IA and a number of aunts and uncles and many other relatives and friends in the vicinities of Red Oak, Griswold, Winterset, and Elliott.
The remains were brought to Elliott on the train Saturday afternoon and taken to the Lowman residence. The funeral was held at the Elliott Methodist Church Sunday at 2:30 conducted by the pastor, the Rev. L.W. Nixon. A very large congregation attended the funeral. There were many floral wreathes brought as tributes of love and sympathy. Six boy friends acted as pall bearers, Lowell Reynolds, Harry Kirby, Paul Nixon, Gerald Davis, Lyle Moore and Robert Osborn, and six girls acted as honorary pall bearers, Olive Isom, Maxine Hully, Ruth Nixon, Dorothy Kennedy, Grace Ator, and Mildred Rush. The singers were Mrs. B.C. Pogue, Mrs. L. W. Nixon, Mr. Hazen West and Mr. John West and Mrs. D.R. Kipp played. The Epworth League paid her a special tribute by attending the funeral in a body. The remains were laid to rest in the Lowman Cemetery.
