Daniel was the son of James Heuff and Margaret Bird Griffith. James and Margaret had 7 sons and one daughter, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Chester, James M., Francis, John W., Major Kern and Ida Florence Griffith. The moved to Jackson County, Ohio in the early 1860's.

He was married three times, first to Eliza Alice Dempsey, (1856-1886) They were married in 1873, they had six children: Laura A., William E. "Joe", Cora D., Florence E., Arthur and Daniel Edgar. She died in 1886.

He then married Mary C. Brown, (1861-1946) in 1888, they had three children: Clara M., Bertha and Golda H. They divorced somewhere between 1895-1900.

Next he married Mandana "Amanda" Potts, (1859-1912) They were married in 1909, Amanda was previously married to James Walker and had two children with him, Carwin and Denny Walker.

On the 1920 US Census for Coal, Jackson, Ohio, he gave Orchardist as his occupation. Throughout his life he was a laborer, farmer and miner.

Daniel died of a stroke 10 Sep 1921 in Coalton, Jackson County, Ohio
