Lt. Col. Dan Abbott

Lt. Col. Dan L Abbott, (Ret.), 72, of Nampa, died on Thursday, Nov. 12, 1992, at a Boise hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the Alsip Funeral Chapel. Rev. Lowell Byall, pastor of the Nampa United Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery.

Lt. Col. Dan J. Abbott, (Ret.) was born on Dec. 31, 1919 at Collinsville, OK. At an early age he moved with his family to King Hill, Idaho, where he was reared and educated. He married Beatrice Macphail in 1940, and they were later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1954, he joined the Air National Guard serving as a squadron commander and retiring as a Lt. Col.

He worked as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 40 years. He received a B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1973. He married Joanne Hamilton in 1973 in Winnemucca and they made their home in Nampa. He was a member of the Nampa Elks Lodge #1389 and the American Legion Joseph H. Murray Post #18.

Dan is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joanne Abbott, Nampa; 2 sons, Eric S. Abbott, Caldwell and Gregory S. Abbott, Middleton; a sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Grover Pace, Cash Junction, Utah; 6 grandchildren, Dan Abbott, Dana Abbott, Pamela Abbott, Julie Abbott, Steven Abbott and Jacob Abbott, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Wayne E. and Dan D. Abbott, and 2 brothers, Wayne and Charles.

The family suggest memorials to the Dr. George Wolfe Scholarship Fund at the Albertson College of Idaho, 2112 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, 83605, or flowers may be sent.
