Andrew Thornton married Susan Elvira Spencer on 18 December 1899 at DeLeon, Texas.

Rev. Thornton was ordained in the Missionary Baptist Church in 1908 and served for 45 years before his retirement in 1948. The couple lived in Lee and Bastrop counties until 1919 when they moved to Jones County. He was pastor of several churches in the North Colorado Baptist Association. They made their home in Anson until 1942.

Survived by two sons - Lee of Cedar Hill and W.D. of Aspermont; four sisters - Mrs. James Allen, Mrs. Floyd McCoy, Mrs. Raymond Guthrie, Mrs. Ray Turner; 28 grandchildren; number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
