OBITUARY: Linwood Benton Sr.(w/photo) - Wenona - Linwood Benton Sr.[,] 73, of here, died Saturday, April 14, 1990, in Peninsula General Hospital Medical Center in Salisbury of cardiopulmonary arrest. Born on Deal Island, he was a son of the late Paul and Jenny Horner Benton. In his earlier years, he was a waterman. In later life, he worked in the marine division of C.J. Langefelder and Son. He was a World War II Navy veteran, wounded in action several days after the D-Day invasion of France. He was a member of Faith Independent Church in Wenona and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Audrey J. Daniels Benton; three sons, Ronald Benton and the Rev. Linwood "Sonny" Benton Jr., Wenona, and James Benton, Deal Island; four daughters, Jeanette Stine and Teresa Ratcliffe, Colonial Beach, Va., Wanda Benton, Deal Island, and Vicky Harrison, Wenona; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Faith Independent Church. His son, the Rev. Linwood "Sonny" Benton Jr., will officiate. He will be assisted by the Rev. John D. Scott. Interment will be held in St. Paul's Cemetery in Wenona. Friends may call at the church tonight from 7 to 9 or Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Contributions may be made in memory of the deceased to Faith Independent Church Building Fund, Wenona, Md. 21870-21870.
