Esther Florence Sheppard Burr, daughter of William P. Sheppard and Anna Otillie Minnie (Marfilius) Sheppard, was born in Wagner Township of Clayton County, Iowa on April 6, 1903 and passed
away at her home in Cresco on November 16, 1983 at the age of 80 years.
Esther lived in rural Luana, where she was born, attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, and returned to Wagner Township where she taught in the rural schools.
On June 25, 1924 Esther was united in marriage to Roy Hislop Burr at Nashua. To this union five children were born, Marjorie, Donald, Reva, Lois, and Robert.
Esther and Roy farmed east of Cresco when they were first married. Later they moved to a farm near Bonair and Lime Springs. In 1939 they purchased a farm east of Cresco and farmed there until 1956, at which time they moved onto their farm near Ridgeway. Esther remained there until a
short time after Roy's death in 1970. In 1971 Esther moved to Cresco where she lived until
her death.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Hislop Burr; five brothers; three sisters, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
