Opal Courdin, age 97, of Monett, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, February 22, 2011, while at the Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett.

Opal was born on December 10, 1913 in Exeter, MO, the daughter of the late Walter Weston and Laura (DeWitt) Weston. She graduated from Exeter High School in the Class of 1933. Opal enjoyed sewing keeping a scrap book filled with family history. She was a member and part of the Ladies Aid at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Pleasant Dale Homemakers. Opal had worked at Sarajo in Pierce City, MO as a Seamstress. She and her husband also owned and operated a general store on H Highway and Powerline Road for many years.

On February 6, 1935 in Neosho, MO, Opal and A.S. "Sonny" Courdin were united in marriage. To this union one daughter was born. Sonny preceded her in death on October 11, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Anne Aderhold; four brothers, W.K., Tom, Leon "Brick" and Ernest "Steamer" Weston; two sisters, Marie Box and Lois Dinan. Opal is survived by two granddaughters, Meredith Gnolfo and husband Phil, of St. Peter's, MO and Michele Wooley and husband Tim, of Mission, KS; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob and Samuel Gnolfo, of St. Peter's; two nieces, Carolyn Passmore, of Blue Springs, MO and Sandra Dinan, of Missouri; one nephew, Lawrence Weston, of Monett; one sister-in-law, Rena Weston, of Liberty, MO; and a host of friends that will dearly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Monett. Reverend Vicki Evans will officiate. Interment will follow in the Waldensian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
