The Oregon cremains reports her birth year was 1887, but other documents indicate it is 1881. The list also says an alternative name was Marie Brill.
Marie was born in France as were her parents. She immigrated to the US in 1890 when she was about 9 years old and was a naturalized citizen between 1910 and 1920.
Marie and Louis N. Abner were married about 1908. It was the first marriage for both of them. It appears they never had children. He was said to be born in New York of Scottish immigrants.
In the 1910 census and the 1915 directory Marie and Louis were listed in San Francisco. He was a packer for a wholesale drug company. At the time of the 1920 census Marie and Louis lived in Burlingame, San Mateo, California where he operated equipment for a manufacturing company.
In 1926 Marie and Louis were listed in the Portland city directory living in Portland. Louis was a sander. The directory of 1929 shows them living in the Maplewood neighborhood in southwest Portland. He was a mechanic for the Ford Motor Company.
During the census of 1930 Marie and Louis were living in Maplewood where they owned their home. He was a stationary engineer for an office building.
At some point after 1930 Marie was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. She died there on 1/7/1938 of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 56.
On 9/5/1933, four years before Marie's death, Abner married Mary J. Hill. On the application for a marriage license he indicated he was "widowed." His new wife reported she was divorced and had been married twice before. They each said they were living in Spokane, Washington where Louis was a mechanic. They were married in Goldendale, Washington just over the Columbia River from The Dalles, Oregon. About 100 miles from Portland, but 250 miles from Spokane.
In 1935 and 1940 census records show Louis and his second wife were living in Vancouver, Washington a short distance from Portland. He was a business agent for a union. He died in Vancouver on 11/28/1951.
