SOLOMON D. VAIL was born at Plymouth, Richland County, Ohio, on December 5, l83l; died at his home in Garden Grove, Iowa, August 25, l905, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 20 days.

He was married on March 2, l856, to CLARISSA A. LINE at Fort Wayne, Ind., and shortly afterward moved to Pittsburg in Van Buren County, Iowa, where he resided until the spring of l864, at which time he removed to Decatur County, Iowa, where he has ever since made his home.

He was a sawyer by trade, and for many years of his life he was engaged in the saw mill industry of Decatur County and adjoining counties in Missouri, coming into this section when comparatively in its pioneer days and by his labor assisting very largely in its early development.

He leaves a wife and seven children, all of whom survive him and will ever continue to remember him as a kind and indulgent husband and parent.
