While in General Store in Coloma, Missouri he picked up a stick of brown sugar and began sucking on it, possibly more brown sugar was consumed, resulting in diarrhea and consequently his death.

Enoch Fleming Shields and wife Maggie were living with his parents Alexander and Lucinda on 1880 Census, and moved to Carroll Co, Mo in September 1884. The Flemingsburg Democrat states in Sept 26, 1884 Friday edition Hillsboro news that they left for Missouri on Tuesday of that week.

Children: Fleming Shields & Nettie Cassandra Shields.
Nettie Cassandra Shields married Charles Uhrig.
