Born November 8, 1843 North Salem, Hendricks County, Indiana.
Enlisted on August 1, 1861 with his brother Daniel Burch Davidson in the Iowa 2nd Light Artillery Regiment at the age of 19. Brother Daniel Burch died of disease on November 21, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Samuel H. Davidson, 2nd Iowa Battery.
Age 19 years old he was wounded March 24, 1864, near Memphis, by a bowie knife. He got "Dry gangrene", in his right hand and on April 13, 1864, his right little finger was amputated. He recovered rapidly and was returned to duty June 8, 1864."
Mustered out on August 7, 1865 at Davenport, Iowa. Married Sarah F. Neaville about 1865. She died in 1879 & he remarried Sarah Ellen Atkinson December 27, 1879.
Died May 9, 1899 Crocker Township, Polk County, Iowa.
