Beloved Matron Dies Tuesday

Mrs. Nancy Carolyn Cunningham of Booneville, wife of J. A. Cunningham, Sr., prominent lawyer, passed away Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. at her home following an illness of three months. She was 83.

Mrs. Cunningham was the daughter of the late James Benjamin Floyd and Sarah Ellen Moore Floyd, pioneer settlers of Prentiss County. During her entire lifetime, she was active in church and civic work. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the W. S. C. S. and a very dedicated member of the Daughters of American Revolution. Mrs. Cunningham was a charter member of the Woman's Club and the first president of the Hospital Auxiliary, when it was organized. She was one of this area's most beloved and well-known matrons, and her devotion to the Christian ideals of life was manifested in all her undertakings. She was a scholarly person, generous and kind, a loving mother, a thoughtful companion and understanding friend to a wide circle of acquaintances.

She had two sons, William Riley Cunningham and James A. Cunningham, Jr., who preceded her in death several years ago.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McMillan Funeral Home with Rev. W. L. Wallace and Rev. E. H. Cunningham officiating. Burial was in the Booneville Cemetery with McMillan Funeral Directors in charge.

She leaves her husband, Mr. James Andrew Cunningham, Sr., of Booneville; a son, Floyd W. Cunningham of Booneville; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Brewer of Booneville; a brother, Dewey Floyd of Booneville; three sisters, Mrs. W. H. Robertson, Mrs. J. D. Robertson and Mrs. W. R.
