Don was the oldest of five children. He grew up in the Cathedral area of St. Paul, attended Cretin High School and graduated from St. Thomas College with a B.S. in Commerce in 1931. He met his wife, Lenora, while recovering from tuberculosis. Besides being the love of his life -- she also served as his personal nurse for some 58 years of married life. Upon graduating from College, Don's first job was with the Federal Land Bank during the Depression. Later he went on to work for the Mills Mutual Insurance Company which insured grain elevators and feed mills in five states -- Minnesota, Montana, North and South Dakota and Wisconsin. When he retired in 1974, he was Vice President - Manager of the Northwest Region of Mills Mutual.
