THE LAST SAD RITES

Funeral of Ruth Hall-Vanderford This Afternoon

The funeral of Ruth Hall-Vanderford, that died last Thursday of consumption in Arizona, was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
The funeral was one of the most largely attended in the history of Carthage, the church being packed to suffocation with sympathizing friends, while scores more stayed outside. For blocks in each direction of Howard and Chestnut Streets were lined with vehicles which had brought people to attend the last sad rites.
There were people of all conditions there for the dead girl was beloved by high and low, rich and poor, in fact all who knew her. An effort was made to reserve seats for the ladies of the Eastern Star and Junior Shakespeare societies of which she was a member, but owning to the dense crowd, it was only partially successful.

A quartette choir composed of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jennings, Mrs. John McMillan and D. G. Wells sang very beautifully and Jessie Catron presided at the organ.
There was an unusual profusion of flowers. the altar was banked with chrysanthemums and ferns, the casket was covered with beautiful roses and many other floral offering were banked about it.

Rev. L. P. Noifleet, pastor of the church assisted by Rev. George H. Williamson of Westminster Presbyterian church, conducted the services in a manner to bring all the comfort possible to the bereaved family. Mr. and Mrs. Hall, Mr. Vanderford and Tom Hall were present at the funeral, the three first mentioned having returned with the remains from Arizona.

The pallbearers were:
Lewis Manley
M. Gray
