Masonic services and burial in the Masonic cemetery at Las Cruces was held Wednesday for John Birdwell former town magistrate in Hurley who died Saturday in Tucson, AZ. He had been a patient of St John's hospital there. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Helen Birdwell; a daughter Mrs. Dorothy Taylor of Tucson; two sons, Courtland Birdwell of San Diego Calif. And Patrick Birdwell of Mountain View Calif., 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Kati Mae Crim of Kilgore TX; Mrs. Lintle Grey Popperwalt of Dallas TX, and Mrs. Marie Hall McNesne of Sierra Vista Calif. Mr. Birdwell was a retired employee of the Chino Mines. Pallbearers were George Abbott, Jeff Rouse, Bob Bates, Earl Etheridge, Frank Lee and John Cooper. Rosary services were in the Curtis Bright funeral chapel Friday with funeral mass being recited in St Vincent De Paul Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. A James Milano officiating.
