Mr. Thomas Wesley Young, age 70, of Gadsden, Alabama, a native and former resident of Avery County, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at his home.
Tom was born May 2, 1940 in Avery County, N.C. He was the son of the late Rev. Roscoe D. and Violet McGuire Young.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Lila Rae Smith Young and their son, Major Dillard Wesley Young and wife, Erica Slate Young of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by the children of his firs wife, Sue Stovall of Scott County, Tennessee, including Linda Lou Resh, Thomas Wesly Young, II and Phillip Lee Young; one brother, Owen D. Young and wife Pauline, and three sisters, Rebecca Ann Worthly and husband, Edward, Sharon Sue Cox and husband, Harry, Virginia Ooten and husband, Porter. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Reverend Roscoe D. and Violet McGuire Young, and one brother, Morris K. Young.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Wesley Young will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, January 11, 2011, at 2:00 o'clock, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Steve Goss. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.
