Age 72 of Wichita, KS; formerly of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday; February 12, 2011 in Wichita following a brief illness
Willa Irene Arthur was born on November 24, 1938 in Pawnee City, NE; the first child of Dayton S. and Nadine W. (Tannyhill) Arthur. She was later joined by her sisters: Donneta, Judith and Rhonda.
The family moved to Nebraska City in 1942 and Willa attended several schools. She graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the class of 1957.
Following college, Willa lived briefly in Lincoln, NE and then relocated to Kansas where she lived in Topeka, then McPherson. During her time in McPherson, Willa was recognized as an Outstanding Young Career Woman for her work with the Jaycees Toys for Tots program.
Willa married Doug Stedry in June of 1965 and the couple raised two children; a daughter Dayna Sheridan and a son Brent A. Stedry. The couple later divorced and Willa and the children relocated to Wichita where she worked for Farm and Ranch Life Insurance, Montgomery Wards and the IRS,-where she was still employed at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her father Dayton S. Arthur and a sister and brother-in-law: Donneta and Duane Smith.
She is survived by mother Nadine Arthur of Nebraska City; daughter Dayna Sheridan of Wichita, KS; son Brent Stedry and wife Yunsuk of Leavenworth, KS; two grandchildren: Abby and Adam Stedry of Leavenworth and sisters: Judith McElroy and husband Rod of Percival, IA and Rhonda Arthur of Phoenix, AZ; other family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday (Feb. 24) at 11:00a.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City, NE.
A memorial fund is being established in her memory.
