Vernon is survived by two daughters: Barbara Barnes of Lincoln, Ne. and Sharron Zakrzewski and her husband Tom of O'Neill, Ne. 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 13 great,great- grandchildren, and one brother, Lester Strong and his wife Violet of Norfolk, Ne.
Vernon was born November 21, 1916 at Norfolk, Nebraska to Clarence and Lena Hattie Clara {KRAKE } Strong. He operated Strong Roofing in O'Neill. He married Annelene Evans on May 20, 1938 at O'Neill, Nebraska and she passed away February 21, 1985. He was a member of the O'Neill Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one granddaughter, one great grandson, eight brothers and two sisters. Rev. Mike Durre is officiating.
