Lewis was the son of Ruby Walker. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia where he was Ordained as a Deacon.
Lewis was married to Bertha Turner Walker on September 30, 1944.

6 Sons: Joe Walker, Nathaniel Walker, Arthur Walker, Herman Walker, Timothy Walker and Larry Corey.
Services were held Friday, March 8, 2007 at 1PM in the Sanctuary of Oak Level Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia.
