Mr. Corbus, was a local miner who succumbed to tuberculosis. He was born in Girard Township in Gratiot County, MI. His middle name is derived from his paternal grandmother's maiden name, which was Britton. Britton is not spelled like "Great Britain", as some have suggested. His death certificate shows a birth date of 10 May 1856, however, this is incorrect. He was listed as being only 1 month old on the 1860 US Census, where he lived with his parents in the household of his grandparents. His headstone also reflects an 1860 birth year.

He married first, Margaret "Maggie" Dozer on 4 Jul 1881 in Allen County, Kansas. After her death, he married Maggie's sister, Mary Ellen Dozer, on 4 Jul 1893, in Allen County, Kansas. There were numerous children from both marriages.
