Emily Cheiver, the daughter of Pheolix and Sophia Cheiver died at her home near Davis City, Iowa being 78 years, 4 months, and 19 days old at the time of her death.

She was married to Andrew Gardner in the year 1855, to this union were born three children: Valana Downs of Portland, Oregon; Ervin Gardner and Myrtle Brownes, their residence unknown. She was left a widow during the war, he dying serving his country.

She was then married to William Peters during the year of 1865. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy. Five children still live; Grant and Dan Peters of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Hallie Allen of Peoria, Iowa; Russell Sherman and Etta Gabel of Leon, Iowa

She was married to John Wesley Baker Sr. in July, 1898, he dying September 1913.

It fell to her to be step-mother by all her marriages and she was faithful to her charge, a mother to all making no difference in her own children or her step children. That was one of her missions on earth to mother motherless children, which she did well and faithfully.

She was converted in the Brethren faith and baptized at the age of 12 years and lived a consistent Christian life ever after.

Funeral services were held at Bethel Church, March 31.

Note:
children dying in Infancy: Charles Sylvestor Peters, Lemuel Dwight Peters and Freddy Peters
Two daughters listed in obituary:
Hallie: Emily Mahala Peters Allen Fox
Etta: Christina Mary Etta Peters Gabel
