Russell Sherman, son of William A. and Emily Cheiver Gardner Peters was born in Winnebago County, Iowa on July 16, 1867 and departed this life at his home in Leon, Iowa on January 24, 1938 at the age of 70 years 6 months and 3 days.

He was united in marriage to Alice Smith on November 29,1892. To this union, nine children were born: Earl, Charles, Clifford, Lawrence, Harold, Golda, Viola, Maude, and Delbert.

His wife preceded him in death December 20, 1914 and one son Delbert who died in infancy in 1894.

Those left to mourn his departure are his five sons: Earl, Charles, Clifford, Lawrence and Harold all of Leon and three daughters, Golda McKinney of Pleasanton, Maude of Leon and Viola Papich of Des Moines

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one brother, Dan Peters, and two sisters, Hallie Fox and Etta Gabel and a host of relatives and friends. One brother Grant preceded him in death in 1931. Three other brothers died in infancy: Charles Sylvestor, Lemuel Dwight, and Freddy Peters.

Funeral services were held from the Stewart Funeral Home in Leon conducted by the Rev.George R. Lamb. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.

Cause of death: coronary embolism (obstruction of a blood vessel)
