Alice Mae Martin, 90, of 509 Wildwood Dr., went home to be with the Lord at 2:55 pm Feb. 18, 2011, at her home.

She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Eddyville to Frederick and Christina Roberts Harding. She married H.A."Al" Martin Oct. 14, 1945. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1984.

A graduate of Eddyville High School and William Penn College, she taught for 33 years in the Eddyville, Fremont and Ottumwa Public Schools, at Eisenhower Elementary, Washington, Walsh and Evans Junior High, retiring in 1986

She was member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple, Ottumwa, State and National Education Associations, the Scribblers Club, American Homefinding and was nominated for National Teacher of the Year.

Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Dalbey of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Mindy(Torey)Young and Matt(Melanie)Dalbey; three great-grandchildren, Tayler, Mason and Spencer, all of Ottumwa; a brothers, Gib(June)Harding of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, Harold and Glen Harding.

Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday at Northgate Alliance Church with Rev. Jim Rightler officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 am today at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 pm today. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northgate Alliance Church or Heartland Humane Society, Ottumwa, Iowa.
