Dennis Wayne Godwin was born to Theron and Jan Godwin. He has three brothers, Jimmy Leon, James Tracy and Wendell Layne Godwin.

I met Dennis in High School the latter part of our Junior year.(1968) I had lived on my own since 16 years old and Dennis and I became good friends. In time Dennis asked me to come and stay with he and his family. His family was very kind and generous to me to let me stay with them. I will NEVER forget their love and kindness. Dennis was a very , kind, caring guy who was a loyal, true friend.
We graduated from Pauls Valley High School in May , 1969 and in the fall of 1969 both started attending East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma. We first roomed together in Fentem Hall on campus and later pledged Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. We moved into the Frat house on 116 Cradduck Road in Ada, Oklahoma. In the spring of 1972 , May , 1972 Dennis was in a fatal car accident that took his life. My life took a complete 180 degree turn. My best friend and brother was no longer there. Below is a newspaper article regarding his accident:

"GODWIN KILLED IN TWO-CAR ACCIDENT"

Dennis Godwin, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theron Godwin, 120 Airport Road, Pauls Valley, was dead on arrival at an Ardmore Hospital Saturday after a two-car accident 15 miles northwest of Ardmore.
Godwin, a 1969 Pauls Valley graduate was heading west on State Highway 53 when a car with three occupants turned left into his path, according to State Highway Patrol Headquarters in Durant.
The accident, occurring at 1:35 p.m., was investigated by State highway patrol trooper, Clyde Tucker, Healdton.
Also dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital in Ardmore was Elzie Webb, 85, of Graham. Wilbur James Webb, Graham, and Daniel Webb, Duncan, were listed in serious condition at Memorial Hospital in Ardmore as a result of the accident.
Godwin finished his junior year at East Central State College , Ada, this spring.
Funeral services are pending with the Stufflebean Funeral Home in Pauls Valley.

Dennis interests were football, scuba diving (he was an instructor), and many other sports. A very outgoing, good looking guy who had a heart made of gold. Never met another person like him since. My best friend! I really miss you each day. Who knows what trouble we would have gotten ourselves into. He loved his family very much.
