Bernadette Simms Wathen, 93, died Thursday, Feb 17, 2011, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Springfield, was a beautician for 67 years and the owner/operator of Bernadette's Beauty Shoppe. She was a member of St Thomas Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Ernest "Tony" Wathen; her parents, Thomas William and Lillie Clements Simms; five brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Pat (Terri) Wathen, Bardstown; two daughters, Ann (Mark) Hazelwood and Jane Peterson, all of Bardstown; eight grandchildren, Michael Wathen, Deanna Wathen, Tina Wathen, James Wathen, Paul Wathen, Chris Peterson, Andrew Peterson and Katie Hazelwood; a great-granddaughter, Mikayla Wathen; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at St Thomas Church with burial in St Joseph Cemetery, The Reverend Ben Brown will celebrate. Visitation is 2-8 p.m.m and after 10 a.m. Monday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home. A prayer service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. by Deacon Scott Turner. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of Masses for Mrs Wathen.
