Son of William Stone Triplett and Annie C. Jennifer.

He served as a Corporal in Company D of the Virginia Military Institute Corps of Cadets and participated in the Battle of New Market, May 15, 1865.

His sister was the well known Richmond beauty May Jenifer Triplett Haxall; wife if Capt. Philip Haxall (both buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va.). Her beauty was the cause of an anonymous poem to be written. Two young men who admired Miss Triplett began an argument over who the author of this poem might be. The men were Page McCarthy and John Mordecai, and thus the last public duel was fought in Virginia over the lovely Mary Triplett. The duel held a tragic outcome for John Mordecai, he was mortally wounded. Page McCarthy was brought to trial, found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and fined $500.00.

The life of John Triplett ended very sadly. Due to a war injury, or from an accident he suffered some form of "general paralysis." He became a patient at Western State Mental Hospital, in Staunton, Virginia. His admission forms to the hospital also state that he was married.

(the last paragraph of information was kindly shared by Dick Johns)Husband of Sarah (Sallie) Lyon Ross.
Son of William Stone Triplett and Ann O Jenifer.
Grandson of George V. Triplett and Mrs. Triplett (nee Beekham), Daniel Jenifer and Elizabeth Tripp Campbell Jenifer.
