Death Takes Mrs. Bates on Tuesday

Mrs. Octa Holbrooks Bates, widow of H. J. Bates, of Franklin, Route 2, died at the family home Tuesday, October 30, at 6 a.m. She was 84 and had been seriously ill for more than a year.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bates are set for today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. at the Coweeta Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. George Cloer and the Rev. Claude Ledford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born Au. 7, 1878, Mrs. Bates was the daughter of the late Larken Holbrooks and Mrs. Sarah Moore Holbrooks. She and Mr. Bates, a native of this county, were married Jan. 17, 1904. He died July 19, 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Bates reared four of Mrs. Bates sister's children, who were orphaned. She was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years in her church.

Surviving are four daughter's, Mrs. Hill Cabe, Mrs. Loyd Purdy, Mrs. Prince Henson and four sisters, Miss' Maggie, Elizabeth and Belle Holbrooks, and Mrs. Jan Oliver.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alex and John Holbrooks, Will and George Keener, and Fred and Jim Jolly, all nephews.
