William Whiteside was born in Island Kelly, Derriaghy Parish, Upper Massereene Barony, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. His father was Joseph Whiteside also from Island Kelly, Derriaghy Parish, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Joseph Whiteside was a Teaching Master at Island Kelly Private School in Derriaghy Parish near Lisburn and Stoneyford in County Antrim for many years 1821-1845 at least. Not sure of exact date of death but it was after 1845. Joseph had 2 other sons beside William Whiteside.

The other sons were John Whiteside born 1819-before 1867. and James Whiteside born around 1832. He married an Agnes Riley and had a daughter Ellen Whiteside in 1867. Not sure of James Whiteside death date.

William Whiteside married Martha Thompson in the Grange of Muckamore in the Muckamore Presyterian on Oct 8 1853.

They had 10 children of whom 9 were born in Co Antrim, Ireland.
