Funeral services are set for Sunday February 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Wellborn Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Nan Alexander was born in Garland, Texas on September 9, 1928 and died in College Station on February 18, 2011.
She was the daughter of Allen Alston Ingram and Thelma Bernice Anderson Ingram and the step-daughter of Claude F. Tisinger. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Obed Alexander in 2006, her parents, and her brothers Allen B. Ingram and Paul A. Ingram. She is survived by her sister Wanda M. Wagoner of Garland.
She is further survived by two sons and their wives-David Alexander and Kay of Abilene and Marion Sid Alexander and Mary of College Station. Her middle son, Jim preceded her in death in 2005. Jim's wife Vicki lives in Spring.
She is also survived by two grandsons, Jay Alexander and his wife Karen, of Lantana and Michael Alexander of Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by four granddaughters, Lawre Alexander of McKinney, Deanna Sorgen and husband Eric, of Allen, Megan Alexander of Spring, and Samantha Alexander of Dallas. She is survived by one great-grandson, Turner Kyle Alexander of Lantana and two great-granddaughters, Avery Clare Sorgen of Allen and Sophie Ann Alexander of Lantana.
She was a member of the Wellborn Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught the same Sunday school class for several decades. She was a Co-Founder and continuing supporter of the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center. She loved gardening and always had vegetables and flowers that she providing her tender loving care and the power of her green thumb.
She was an avid fan of Texas A&M sports teams and the Houston Astros and could always tell you when each team was playing and how they were doing. Her most important trait was her care and compassion for friends and family. She never missed an opportunity to visit a sick friend or family member on the phone or in person and take some food to be supportive. She did this up until her very last days. Her life of unconditional love for others was the way she started each day. She was fortunate to have lived her life independently until February 9th.
All of her grandchildren lovingly called her "Nana". She was one of those beautiful, caring individuals that connected with every generation of friends and family. Her laughter and sense of humor are something we will always remember. She will always be loved and sorely missed by all of his family and friends. Her spirit will be with us always although her earthly journey has ended.
