Alvin was born on April 9, 1916, in Mishicot, son of the late Charles and Augusta Sehloff Nickels.
He married the former Florence Thor on Aug. 12, 1939, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Alvin and his wife, Florence, owned and operated the Nickels Grocery Store from 1948 until 1963.
Alvin then worked at Mirro Aluminum and later the Schmidtman Company until his retirement.
He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and the local Musicians Union.
Alvin enjoyed playing drums for many area bands, including the Virgil Petska Band and the Mystic Moods Band at the Manitowoc Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Nickels, Manitowoc; two sisters, Jeanette Berge, Greendale, and Ruth Kuchenbecker, Manitowoc; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Audrey Nickels, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Alvin was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Carl (Leona) Nickels, Harold (Mabel) Nickels, Harlan Nickels, Bernice Jaquith and Clara Katalinick; three sisters and five brothers-in-law, Hilda (Melvin) Grotbeck, Esther (John) Wilke, Minnie (Virgil) Petska, Milton Berge and Emil Kuchenbecker.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Glenn Unke will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
